Beware of Ticks and Lyme Disease This Summer
During the summer, ticks can be found everywhere within the landscape around us. Ticks can carry many diseases, but Lyme disease is perhaps the most dangerous. Ticks and Lyme disease are everywhere, but there is help for your health. CVA Exterminators in Santa Clarita understands ticks and the way Lyme disease can spread. Here are some tips and tricks to protect you, your children and your family from ticks this summer.
Keep Ticks Away from You and Your Clothing
You should protect yourself and your clothing from ticks. You should use tick propellant that contains at least 20 percent DEET on your skin. The repellent that you choose should last for many hours, especially when you sweat and spend time in the summer sun. You should apply this to your children safely and avoid the mouth, hands and around the eyes. Before you go outside, it is important to apply your repellent to your clothing and your shoes.
Check for Ticks
If you go outdoors protected, you still need to check yourself and your children for ticks. There are many places for ticks to hide, especially on the human body. Here are a few places you need to check.
- Under the arms and in the armpit area
- Inside and around the belly button
- Around the waist and on the upper thighs
- Back of the knees and folds around your feet
Ticks enjoy warm, moist areas that may experience sweat. Skin folds should be checked thoroughly to ensure ticks are not hanging on where you cannot see them. Make sure you also check your clothing before you enter your home. Ticks are good at hanging onto everything, including clothing material.
You should remove ticks quickly and properly and dispose of them as well. Once you protect yourself and then check your body for ticks, you are sure to prevent Lyme disease. CVA Exterminators can do an inspection of your yard and surrounding areas to see if ticks are an issue for you. We are here to help. Give us a call today!
