Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are a blood sucking menace everywhere in the world

They get their name from their habit of feeding on human’s while in bed. However, you can get them on planes, hotels, movie theaters and even at aunt Edna’s. Bed bugs are non-discriminatory, they infest the rich, the poor, the clean and the messy equally. While bed bugs are mostly nocturnal, they can move around during the day. Just enough to catch a ride on an item you placed on a floor or piece of furniture in an infested structure.
Because bed bugs are small and reclusive they are not easy to find. Bed bugs hide in the seams of mattresses, upholstery, behind baseboards in cracks and crevices of furniture. They have also been known to temporarily live in backpacks, under car seats and luggage.
Most people suspect bed bugs after noticing bites on their body or seeing a crawling insect on the bed. Crawling insects are sometimes found after a restroom visit in the night and when returning to bed. Bed bug bites are often difficult to diagnose because they can resemble bites by fleas or mosquitoes. Some people have no reaction to bites but for some they are itchy and can create welts.

How do you know if you have bed bugs? Look for small reddish brown or black fecal spots on your mattress or sheets. Additionally, look for the actual bugs on or around your bed. Bed bugs are mahogany in color but can become darker after a feeding. If you find a small bug, it is good to collect it and keep it for identification by a licensed pest professional. Also, it is good to think about how you may have gotten bed bugs to start with.
